Seventy seventy pays homage to the sensuality, textures and very grown up vibe of the early 1970s – a style that has been at the forefront of fashion for the Past five years and can be seen in the works of designers such as Tom Ford, Prada, Tom Dixon and Stella McCartney. It is easy to dismiss the1970s as “the decade that taste forgot” but to do so would be to overlook the decade’s contributions in architecture, furniture and interior design. The brave modernism that came out of the sixties and roared into the seventies manifested at its best in the early part of the decade, before the sugary era of Disco and 80’s New Wave.
The bar is warm, fully of earth tones, wood, plush carpet and modular shapes. It is the era of Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway, Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton. This is a sophisticated space, replete with slickly interpreted versions of a 70’s cocktail menu and popular foods in modernized, sharing form. The vinyl library makes for interactive evenings of music led by a resident DJ.
